MLA Derabassi, Kuljit Singh Randhawa today laid the foundation stone of the Malakpur–Jeoli link road, marking the fulfillment of a long-pending demand of the residents of the area. Addressing the gathering, the MLA said that the road, being constructed at a cost of Rs 2.41 crore, will be 18 feet wide.

He added that the contractor will also be responsible for its maintenance and repair for next five years after completion. The road will connect Malakpur to Jeuli via Bhagsi and Tararak section, ensuring improved connectivity for several villages.

Randhawa said that despite repeated pleas, the earlier governments never prioritized this crucial road project. However, the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government has approved it, keeping in mind the needs and convenience of the local residents.

He further stated that those who are now politicizing the issue failed to take any action on it during their tenure. Highlighting the challenges faced due to the withholding of the Rural Development Fund (RDF) by the Central Government, he said that while it caused delays in several development works, the State Government continues to push forward development projects with determination and commitment.

The MLA emphasized that the new road will bring ease of commuting, time savings, and improved safety for residents. He directed the local police to strictly curb the movement of overloaded vehicles and tippers on this road to prevent damage.

Randhawa further stated that the Punjab Government has launched an extensive initiative to improve road infrastructure, under which link roads across Punjab, including in the Derabassi constituency, are being repaired, newly constructed, and maintained for five years — setting a new benchmark in quality and accountability.

He expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for showing special interest in the overall development of the Derabassi constituency. Prominent among the persons present included panchs, sarpanches, dignitaries, and administrative officers from the area on the occasion.
