The ongoing Sewa Parv campaign was today celebrated with a vibrant series of activities, reflecting the themes of cultural engagement, community service, health awareness, and environmental conservation.

A major highlight of the day was the Kala Utsav organised by the Education department at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Pulwama. The event, attended by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, featured art, slogan, and essay competitions around the spirit of Sewa.

Department of Information and Public Relations also presented cultural programmes spreading messages on cleanliness, hygiene, anti-drug awareness, and government initiatives, especially Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Qayoom highlighted the series of activities being undertaken across the district by various departments as part of the Sewa Parv campaign. He emphasised the crucial role of students as ambassadors of cleanliness and social change, urging them to take a firm stand against drug abuse under the Nasha Mukht J&K Abhiyan and actively contribute to the goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Dr. Qayoom also stressed the importance of healthy lifestyles, balanced nutrition, and regular health check-ups so that young people can contribute productively to society. “The energy of our youth,” he said, “should be channeled into creativity, learning, and service, which will not only strengthen communities but also build a resilient and self-reliant Pulwama.”

Later, DC visited a medical camp at Lajoorah organised under the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan, interacting with health officials and reviewing ongoing activities. He directed teams to strengthen screening, early detection, and treatment linkages for both communicable and non-communicable diseases, with emphasis on anaemia, tuberculosis, and sickle cell disease.

Maternal and child health, immunisation, adolescent care, nutrition, menstrual hygiene, lifestyle disorders, and mental health awareness were also highlighted for comprehensive grassroots well-being.

Meanwhile, a series of plantation drives were organised by Social Forestry, RDD, Urban & Housing Development, and Education departments, promoting environmental consciousness and community participation.

Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, and allied sectors conducted awareness programmes on various schemes, while the Housing and Urban Development Department led extensive drives to eliminate Single Use Plastic (SUP) across municipalities.

Rural Development Department celebrated Clean Green Utsav with eco-friendly, zero-waste events in panchayats of all blocks, alongside awareness on segregation of dry and wet waste. Awareness camps for pensioners regarding online pension services were also organised across treasuries of the district, ensuring greater ease of access for senior citizens.

As part of the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan, medical camps were conducted at various health institutions including PHCs, CHCs, and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, providing screening, preventive care, and awareness on maternal, child, and adolescent health, nutrition, menstrual hygiene, and lifestyle-related diseases.
