Punjab’s Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister, Dr. Baljit Kaur, today visited nearly 20 border villages including Ram Singh Bhaini in Fazilka district and interacted with the flood-affected residents. She assured that, as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, even farmers with ‘kacchi’ (unregistered) lands who have suffered losses due to floods will be compensated — a historic and unprecedented decision.

Dr. Kaur informed that the district administration has already initiated the process, and special girdawari (damage assessment) work is being carried out on priority. She further announced her personal contribution of ₹2 lakh towards the relief fund to ensure immediate support to affected families.

“The foremost aim of our government is to deliver timely relief to every affected family. We stand firmly with our brothers and sisters in this hour of crisis and will continue our efforts until their lives return to normal,” she added.

Highlighting restoration measures, Dr. Kaur said that repair of damaged roads and other infrastructure has already commenced, and transportation facilities will soon be restored. She added that the government has been proactively delivering relief material, organizing medical camps, and ensuring other essential facilities.

The Health Department has also been instructed to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases post-floods. On this occasion, MLA Narinder Pal Singh Sawna stated that while temporary road repairs have been initiated to restore connectivity, roads will later be permanently upgraded and elevated in consultation with local residents.

He also confirmed that compensation will be provided not only for crop losses but also for damages to houses and livestock. The girdawari process for the same is already underway.

On this occasion  SDM Virpal Kaur, DPO Navdeep Kaur, and Market Committee Chairman Paramjit Singh Noor Shah were also present.
