Punjab has recently faced severe flooding after intense rainfall submerged large parts of the state. In response, Lovely Professional University (LPU) launched a major relief initiative spearheaded by Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU. Dr. Mittal personally visited the affected areas of Kapurthala to oversee the distribution of essential supplies to over 600+ affected families.

The on-ground execution of the relief drive was mobilized by a team of dedicated LPU staff, NSS volunteers, and NCC cadets, who actively coordinated the provision of comprehensive aid, including relief kits and critical assistance to communities in urgent need. SDM Major Irwin Kaur, DSP Hargurdev Singh, ADC Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa, SP(D) Prabhjot Singh Virk, and Halka Incharge Sardar Sajan Singh Cheema also joined the distribution drive.

Dr. Mittal assessed the damage firsthand and interacted with displaced families. "The scale of this disaster has imposed unimaginable hardship on our community," he stated. At such a time, it is not just about extending aid, it is about standing together, restoring hope, and ensuring that no one feels abandoned.

Punjab has always shown resilience, and together we will rise above this calamity.” Dr. Mittal further emphasized the critical need for long-term strategies, stating, "While providing immediate relief is imperative, this calamity underscores the necessity for enhanced disaster preparedness, robust infrastructure, and stronger community networks to mitigate future risks."

The widespread disaster has shaken the entire state, but it has also inspired resourceful individuals and volunteers to step forward in solidarity. The university has established a formal channel for ongoing support.

Those wishing to contribute to the relief efforts can donate essential supplies or funds through the Division of Student Welfare of LPU.
