In an effort to ensure a seamless, safe and memorable experience for tourists, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, today undertook a comprehensive tour of Gulmarg, where he inspected the functioning of the Gulmarg Gondola and reviewed a range of facilities provided to visitors.

During the visit, DC inspected both Phase I and Phase II of the Gondola cable car system, reviewed the ticketing process, and assessed the preparedness to manage the increasing flow of tourists.

He examined the functioning of ticket counters, adherence to safety protocols, and arrangements made to streamline passenger movement and prevent overcrowding. DC also conducted a detailed assessment of sanitation and cleanliness, particularly around the Gondola base station and nearby public spaces.

He inspected the condition of public washrooms and other basic amenities, and interacted with tourists and staff to obtain feedback on the services being offered. He reviewed the progress of ongoing development works in the area, with specific instructions to ensure timely completion and adherence to quality standards to enhance the overall tourist experience.

Subsequently, DC chaired a review meeting with officers from the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), Tourism Department, Municipal Committee, J&K Cable Car Corporation, Public Works Department (PWD), Health Department, and other allied departments.

During the meeting, Minga Sherpa stressed upon strengthening the tourist facilitation mechanism, including the establishment of round-the-clock Tourist Help Desks, improved traffic management, and streamlined transport services to ensure hassle-free mobility within the tourist area.

He also called for timely waste disposal, an efficient and transparent ticketing system, and proper directional signage and information displays. DC emphasized the importance of enhanced inter-departmental coordination and deployment of emergency response teams to ensure tourist safety and satisfaction.

He urged all departments to work collaboratively to provide a high-quality, visitor-friendly environment and reiterated the administration’s commitment to promote Gulmarg as a model of sustainable and responsible tourism.

The meeting was attended by CEO GDA, SDM Gulmarg, SDPO Gulmarg, and other senior officials from departments concerned with tourism infrastructure and public services.
