Under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is continuously working to ensure the supply of canal water to every agricultural field in Punjab. As part of this initiative, MLA Mrs. Narinder Kaur Bharaj inaugurated the commencement of a pipeline project worth approximately ₹1.83 crores to provide irrigation for 1,052 acres of agricultural land in the villages of Gehla and Ghumand Singh Wala in the Sangrur constituency.

On this occasion, farmers expressed great happiness and gratitude toward the government as they witnessed canal water reaching their fields for the very first time. The MLA stated that the Punjab government is carrying out large-scale development works in the Sangrur constituency with utmost transparency, ensuring no compromise on quality.

She appealed to the public to monitor the development works in their area and promptly report any negligence or substandard work. Mrs. Bharaj emphasized that the goal of the Punjab government is to ensure canal water reaches every farmer's field.

This, she explained, will help conserve groundwater, reduce farming expenses for farmers, and significantly enhance soil fertility. Agricultural experts believe that compared to groundwater, canal water contains more essential nutrients required for the soil.

On this occasion, the MLA shared that pipeline installation work for canal water is being carried out at a war footing in a large number of villages across the constituency. As a result, a vast area of Sangrur will benefit from canal water, reducing reliance on groundwater. In light of the need to conserve groundwater, she also urged farmers to prioritize direct seeding of paddy.

The event was attended by Chairman Market Committee Jagseer Singh Jhaneri, Jatinder Singh Bajwa, Lakhwinder Singh Fagguwala, Gurvinder Singh Chattha, officials from various departments, local dignitaries, and a large number of farmers.
