MP Gurneet Singh Meet Hayer kick starts work on bio remediation of 20000 MT of legacy waste in Barnala

The Member of Parliament from Sangrur Mr Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer today inaugurated the work of bio remediation of solid data waste at the dumping site on Moga bypass here today. The 20000 MT of legacy waste will be segregated into solid waste and soil using machines at a cost of Rs 80 lakhs.

Talking to the reporters at site Mr Meet Hayer said that the Punjab government was committed to providing a clean and healthy environment to its people. Two major piles of legacy waste dotted city - one being near the grain market on Bajakhana Road and another being Moga bypass road.

Work on grain market legacy waste pile was started almost a month ago at cost of Rs 1. 41 crores and now the work on Moga bypass dump has been started. It shall take around six months for the gatbage to be segregated. 

While soil recovered from segregation process will be used for earth filling, the garbage shall be used as fuel in industry. For this, a Ludhiana based firm has been roped- in that shall retrieve the solid waste and use it as fuel in industries.

MP Mr Meet Hayer called upon the people of Barnala to segregate dry and wet waste separately while handing it over to the waste pickers of municipal council Barnala. He added that this would ensure that there are no more garbage piles.

Mr Ram Tirth Manna chairman Improvement Trust Barnala, Mr Harinder Singh Dhaliwal constituency in charge Barnala, Mr Dheeraj, chairman market committee Dhanaula Mr Gurjot Singh Bhathal, Mr Gurjit Singh Ramanvasiya, Mr Vishal deep executive officer municipal Council Barnala were also present.
