In a significant step towards strengthening school infrastructure and child nutrition in the region, the new Mid-Day Meals kitchen and building at Government Primary School, Village Chack Lamochar (Murak Wala), Jalalabad (W), was inaugurated today by Sh. Bal Mukand Sharma, Chairman, Punjab State Food Commission (PSFC). along with MLA Jalalabad, Sh. Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy.
The event was attended by a gathering of over 100-150 people, including local residents, panchayat members, and school authorities. Addressing the audience, Chairman PSFC, Sh. B.M. Sharma, emphasized the crucial role that Village Panchayats, local leaders, NGOs, NRIs, and social workers can play in complementing government efforts to uplift infrastructure for Anganwadis and Mid-Day Meal schemes.
He lauded the efforts of the dynamic MLA, Sh. Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy, for his commitment to education and community development, highlighting that the MLA had successfully brought in grants worth over Rs. 52.50 crore for schools in the Jalalabad constituency—a feat highly appreciated by the residents.
Later, the District Programme Officer (DPO), Fazilka, escorted Chairman PSFC and Sh. Chetan Parkash Dhaliwal, Member PSFC and Incharge of District Fazilka, to inspect the Anganwadi Centre at Village Lamochar. During the visit, Anganwadi workers and helpers expressed satisfaction with the quality and quantity of ready-to-cook meals provided by the NGO. However, they raised a request for the inclusion of panjiri in the food distribution, citing beneficiary preferences.
Chairman Sharma assured the workers that the matter would be addressed at the appropriate level. Following this, the MLA and Chairman PSFC laid the foundation stone of the Village Sports Stadium. Speaking to the media, Mr. Sharma praised the Punjab State Government’s efforts to combat drug abuse, stating that positive initiatives like this by MLA Goldy would help channel the energy of village youth into sports and healthy lifestyles.
On this occasion, sports kits funded by the government were also distributed among local youth.
