Sohana Eye Hospital, Sector 78, organized a walkathon as part of Glaucoma Awareness Week to spread awareness about the disease. The event saw enthusiastic participation from healthcare professionals, students, families, and hospital staff members.
The walkathon commenced at 5:00 PM from the Eye Wing Entrance of Sohana Hospital and followed a designated route. Participants carried banners and placards, spreading awareness among city residents about the importance of early detection and prevention of glaucoma.
Doctors and ophthalmologists from the hospital led the walk, educating participants about the risks, symptoms, and the critical need for regular eye check-ups to combat glaucoma. It is important to note that glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide, yet millions remain undiagnosed due to the absence of noticeable symptoms in its early stages.
The event served as a wake-up call, urging people to prioritize their vision health and encourage their families to undergo regular eye screenings. On this occasion, Dr. Amanpreet Kaur, Senior Cataract and Refractive Surgeon at Sohana Hospital, shared valuable insights about glaucoma and its prevention.
She praised the initiative, stating, "This walkathon has inspired citizens to become more conscious of their vision health. Early detection is the only way to protect against glaucoma, and such events play a crucial role in spreading this message."
Many participants pledged to get their eyes tested and spread awareness within their communities. The event concluded on a high note, with the hospital administration expressing heartfelt gratitude to all participants and volunteers for their unwavering support in making the campaign a success.
