Haryana State Informatics Officer, Sh. Deepak Bansal said that in today’s digital age the internet offers both opportunities and risk with a single click. Since mobile devices are linked with internet and online financial transactions, even a small mistake can lead to financial loss. Thus one should be careful while using social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp to prevent potential dangers.

Sh. Bansal was speaking at a workshop organised by the State Informatics Center on ‘Safe Internet day’ at Haryana Civil Secretariat today. He said that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India has launched a nationwide awareness campaign on February 11, 2025 with the theme of "Together for a Better Internet".

The campaign aims to promote responsible and safe internet usage among the citizens. To educate various internet users about safe online services, cyber hygiene and protection from cyber threats, with a special focus on children, women, and youth.

He further said that on the ‘Safe Internet Day’ National Informatics Centre (NIC) officers have conducted workshops at every district level in Haryana to educate and inform local citizens and officers about internet safety. Additional State Informatics Officer, Sh. Sarbjeet Singh who was also present at the workshop, shared several important internet safety tips.

He advised to never share PINs or OTPs with anyone to protect oneself from scammers. Avoid using common passwords and update them regularly. Use secure browsers and keep one’s online profiles private.

Restrict profile pictures and status updates to trusted contacts only. Beside this, keep one’s phone locked and enable login alerts for better security and never share screen with unknown people to prevent fraud. He said that awareness is the best way to stay safe from cyber threats.

Several other officials from the NIC, Haryana, and around 75 employees of the Secretariat also remained present during the programme.
