Hindustan Zinc Limited (NSE: HINDZINC), India’s largest and the world’s second largest integrated zinc producer, celebrated over 180 alumni from its flagship social impact initiative, Unchi Udaan at the Zinc Guild Alumni Meet 2024. The Unchi Udaan initiative is aimed at empowering youth of Rajasthan and Uttarakhand from underprivileged rural hinterland to achieve their engineering aspirations.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from alumni, students, parents, and teachers in the presence of the chief guest, Mr. Arun Misra - CEO, Hindustan Zinc, along with various leaders from Hindustan Zinc, Vidya Bhawan Society and Resonance Joint Ventures. This gathering not only honoured the achievements of the graduates but also served as a source of inspiration and encouragement for the current three batches.

Established in 2017, Hindustan Zinc’s Unchi Udaan, in collaboration with Vidya Bhawan Society and Resonance Joint Ventures, has been a trailblazer in empowering Rajasthan’s youth to achieve their engineering aspirations. This flagship initiative offers four years of comprehensive integrated residential coaching, enabling students to excel in 10th and 12th board exams while preparing them to tackle prestigious competitive exams like IIT-JEE.

The program supports students from rural areas who are first generational learners in their family. With cutting-edge academic support, top-notch faculty, and a state-of-the-art residential academy, Unchi Udaan has touched nearly 300 students’ lives, turning aspirations into reality and paving the way for a brighter future for Rajasthan’s engineering talent.

Reflecting on the initiative’s profound impact, Mr. Arun Misra, CEO Hindustan Zinc Limited, remarked, “Unchi Udaan is not just an educational program; it is a visionary movement designed to transform lives and cultivate a generation of engineers who will become the architects of Rajasthan and India’s future.

By providing a robust foundation of knowledge, mentorship, and opportunities, we are empowering young minds to transcend barriers and pioneer innovations that will drive the nation’s progress and prosperity.” Hindustan Zinc’s Unchi Udaan initiative has empowered 9 batches and nearly 300 students with more than 50% female candidates, opening doors to premier engineering institutions.

The initiative has achieved remarkable success with 15 students (8 boys, 7 girls) securing admissions to prestigious IITs/NITs, 125 students (69 boys, 56 girls) enrolling in government engineering colleges, and 6 students (2 boys, 4 girls) making their mark in private engineering colleges. By bridging the gap between potential and opportunity, Unchi Udaan continues to shape the future of engineering talent in Rajasthan.

Unchi Udaan’s legacy is a testament to the power of education and opportunity. Over the years, its impact has been vividly reflected in the inspiring stories of its students, whose journeys exemplify the program’s transformative power. As Rohit Maheshwarii, a proud alumna of Unchi Udaan, shares, "Before Unchi Udaan, access to quality education seemed like a far-fetched dream.

With the support and training provided, I graduated from MBM Jodhpur and now work at Vedanta. This program has not only helped me overcome my challenges but also inspired me to dream bigger and contribute to India’s growth." Hindustan Zinc remains steadfast in its mission to build a brighter, more equitable future for the youth of Rajasthan, empowering them to achieve their dreams and contribute to the nation’s growth.

Beyond Unchi Udaan, Hindustan Zinc drives a profound social transformation through its comprehensive CSR initiatives spanning education, healthcare, women empowerment, water and sanitation, skill development, and infrastructure enhancement. Flagship programs such as Shiksha Sambal, Jeevan Tarang, Zinc Football Academy, Sakhi, and Samadhan have positively impacted nearly 20 lakh lives across 3,700 villages.

From advancing digital literacy and awarding scholarships to fostering self-help groups and promoting rural sports, Hindustan Zinc is steadfast in its mission to uplift communities and strengthen the socio-economic framework of its operational areas. Recognized among India’s top 10 CSR companies, Hindustan Zinc remains committed to fostering sustainable, inclusive growth that benefits generations to come.
