Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has encouraged newly elected Panchayat Members to ensure overall development of villages in a transparent manner so that people can support the new panchayats and contribute towards development excepting factionalism and discrimination.

On this occasion S. Sandhwan administered oath to 1653 Panchayats Members of 241 Gram Panchayats of the district, including 788 panchayat members from Faridkot block, 375 from Kotkapura block and 490 members from Jaiton block.

Administering oath to the newly elected members at Nehru Stadium here today, S. Sandhwan said that the new Panchayat Members can change the condition of the villages.

He encouraged the new panchayat members should ensure holistic development of the villages by consulting villagers and optimal utilisation of funds.

Advising to end the factionalism in villages, S. Sandhwan said that now the time has come to rise above animosity and join hands to work for the villages according to the needs of the common people.

He said that people's money should be used judiciously for the welfare of the people and ensure holistic development of the villages.

Calling on the newly elected Panchayat members to convert villages into 'Adarsh Villages’, S. Sandhwan asked the Members to perform your duty with full dedication and transparency and play an important role in overall development of the villages so that the next generations can give examples of their commitment.

S. Sandhwan termed panchayats as the pivot of progress and said that only if the villages will become prosperous then the state can be able to progress.
