Crusade Launched against Drug smugglers and paddlers by Ropar Range Police led by DIG Nilambari Jagdale

In consonance with the commitment of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to make Punjab drug-free and as per the guidelines of Director General Police, Punjab Gaurav Yadav, a special campaign has been launched by Punjab Police in Ropar range from June 17, 2024, to eradicate the drug menace. So far, 296 drug smugglers have been booked and arrested in 211 cases in the Ropar Police Range.

Divulging more details, Mrs Nilambari Jagdale, DIG, Ropar Range said that during this crusade launched against drugs, 211 cases were registered against 296 drug smugglers in Ropar, Mohali and Fatehgarh Sahib districts falling under Ropar Range. Giving details of the recovered contrabands, she said that about 381 kg 770 grams of poppy, 44 1 kg 167-gram opium, 13 gram 10 mg smack, 963-gram drug powder, 14507 drug pills, 1 kg 746-gram Charas, 1 kg 397 gram 75 mg heroin, 50 drug vials, 61 kg 347 gram Ganja, 3281 drug injections and Rs 3,95,450-drug money etc. have been recovered.

She further informed that apart from this, cases have been sent to the competent authorities to freeze property worth Rs 42 lakh. However, property worth Rs 1.34 lakh has been attached.According to the DIG, the accused in NDPS cases who failed to appear in the respective courts after jumping bail, necessary action is being taken to get their bail cancelled.

She said that in the latest case registered on 10 September 2024, an accused Sanjay Kumar alias Sanju son of Ram Babu resident of House No. 389 was arrested by the police party led by Sukhwinder Singh SI InCharge Range Anti-Narcotics cum Special Operation Cell Range Ropar Camp at Mohali. A resident of Vikas Nagar, Moli Jagra Chandigarh, Sanjay Kumar came on motorcycle number CH-01-CF-5745 to Nau Gaja Pir, Saini Vihar Phase-1, Baltana Wali Street while supplying drugs. 

During the search in the presence of DSP Jaspinder Singh Gill, 50 drug vials, 2120 drug capsules, 6470 drug pills, 36 drug injections and Rs.20,000/- drug money was recovered from him. A case under the NDPS Act No. 403 dated 10-09-2024 dated 10-09-2024 A/D 22/61/85 at Police Station Zirakpur. During interrogation, he disclosed that a case under the 22 NDPS Act had already been registered against him at Sector 39 Chandigarh.

Mrs Nilambari Jagdale, IPS, DIG, Ropar Range said that the crusade against the drug menace will continue.
