District Election Officer (DEO) Sakshi Sawhney reviewed the commissioning of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines for use in these on-going general elections. The inspection was conducted at eight locations at various schools and colleges in the district.
DEO Sawhney stated that the administration had started the preparation process of 7974 ballot units, 3498 control units, and 3795 VVPATs to be used on polling day. The commissioning process was conducted under 24x7 CCTV surveillance to ensure transparency.
Sawhney emphasized that the primary motive of the inspection was to ensure that polling for the general election was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner. She also held detailed interactions with the engineers of Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), who had been assigned the duty of preparing these machines.
The engineers confirmed that all EVMs and VVPATs would be ready for use after reformatting, which is crucial for ensuring smooth, hassle-free, and transparent elections. Sawhney also shared that a total of 43 candidates are in the fray in the Ludhiana parliamentary constituency.
She informed that 2921 polling booths have been set up for the poll day in district Ludhiana, with additional EVMs and VVPATs kept for the poll day. She assured that the elections would be held in a free and fair manner, without any fear.

ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਚੋਣ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਸਾਕਸ਼ੀ ਸਾਹਨੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਲਈ ਇਲੈਕਟ੍ਰਾਨਿਕ ਵੋਟਿੰਗ ਮਸ਼ੀਨਾਂ (ਈ.ਵੀ.ਐਮ.) ਅਤੇ ਵੋਟਰ-ਵੈਰੀਫਾਈਡ ਪੇਪਰ ਆਡਿਟ ਟ੍ਰੇਲ (ਵੀ.ਵੀ. ਪੈਟ) ਮਸ਼ੀਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਦੀ ਸਮੀਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ। ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਲਜਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੱਠ ਥਾਵਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਨਿਰੀਖਣ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਚੋਣ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਸਾਹਨੀ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਨੇ ਪੋਲਿੰਗ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ 7974 ਬੈਲਟ ਯੂਨਿਟ, 3498 ਕੰਟਰੋਲ ਯੂਨਿਟ ਅਤੇ 3795 ਵੀ.ਵੀ. ਪੈਟ ਦੀ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ। ਪਾਰਦਰਸ਼ਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਿੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ 24×7 ਦਿਨ ਸੀ.ਸੀ.ਟੀ.ਵੀ. ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ ਅਧੀਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ।
ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਚੋਣ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਸਾਹਨੀ ਨੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਨਿਰੀਖਣ ਦਾ ਮੁਢਲਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਆਮ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਲਈ ਪੋਲਿੰਗ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ, ਨਿਰਪੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਰਦਰਸ਼ੀ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾਵੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਇਲੈਕਟ੍ਰੋਨਿਕਸ ਲਿਮਟਿਡ (ਬੀ.ਈ.ਐਲ.) ਦੇ ਇੰਜੀਨੀਅਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਵਿਸਥਾਰਪੂਰਵਕ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਮਸ਼ੀਨਾਂ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਡਿਊਟੀ ਸੌਂਪੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਇੰਜੀਨੀਅਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਈ.ਵੀ.ਐਮ. ਅਤੇ ਵੀ.ਵੀ.ਪੈਟ ਰੀਫਾਰਮੈਟਿੰਗ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੋਣਗੇ, ਜੋ ਸੁਚਾਰੂ, ਨਿਰਵਿਘਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਰਦਰਸ਼ੀ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ।
ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਚੋਣ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਸਾਹਨੀ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁੱਲ 43 ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਚੋਣ ਮੈਦਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੋਟਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਲਈ 2921 ਪੋਲਿੰਗ ਬੂਥ ਬਣਾਏ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੋਟਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਵਾਧੂ ਈ.ਵੀ.ਐਮ. ਅਤੇ ਵੀ.ਵੀ.ਪੈਟ ਰੱਖੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਡਰ ਦੇ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਰਪੱਖ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਵਾਈਆਂ ਜਾਣਗੀਆਂ।
