In a transformative journey of knowledge and collaboration, a contingent of 780 students and mentors, having explored the technological wonders of ISRO and the academic excellence of IISc Bangalore, has been flagged off for their onward journey to Wardha in Maharashtra.
The late-night flag-off ceremony was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including T. Subramanya Ganesh, Scientist/Engineer-G Deputy Director, NSA, ISTRAC Telemetry Tracking and Command Network ISRO; B. Sankar Madaswamy, Scientist/Engineer- SF Manager HRDD, ISRO; and Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu.
T. Subramanya Ganesh, in an interaction, provided valuable insights into the ongoing journey of knowledge exchange at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and space technology cells nationwide. He focused on research activities in the expansive realm of space technology.
T. Subramanya Ganesh highlighted the exceptional talent and knowledge demonstrated by students from Jammu and Kashmir participating in these programmes. He expressed confidence in their potential to excel in their chosen fields, underlining the importance of nurturing and promoting such promising talent.
"It's truly commendable to witness the enthusiasm and aptitude displayed by the students of Jammu and Kashmir in the field of space technology. The ongoing interaction programs at ISRO and various space technology cells across the country aim to harness and further cultivate this immense potential," T. Subramanya Ganesh added.
B. Sankar Madaswamy, during the flag-off ceremony, in an interaction expressed his overwhelming appreciation for the dedication of the female students, who travelled long distances to seek knowledge from esteemed institutions of the country during the College on Wheels.
Madaswamy further remarked, "Their determination and eagerness to learn are inspiring, contributing to the vibrancy of such educational programmes."The collaborative spirit exhibited during this journey not only reinforces the commitment to academic exploration but also opens avenues for future partnerships between educational institutions and space research organizations.
This initiative reflects a shared vision of fostering academic growth and nurturing the potential within the students. As the College on Wheels embarks on the next leg of its journey, the echoes of encouragement from T. Subramanya Ganesh and B. Following these insightful visits to the ISRO and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) the participants from universities engaged in a spirited preliminary Charkha competition, adding a touch of traditional skill and camaraderie to their educational journey.
In an effort to blend modern education with traditional values, the participants took part in a preliminary Charkha competition. With a huge response from the participants from various universities, the competition was divided into two levels. Firstly, internal competition among students of respective institutions shall be held in two phases. Today the preliminary round for Charkha Competitions was held.
The students, hailing from various universities, actively participated in the preliminary round of Charkha competition, demonstrating their skill in this traditional craft. The event not only promoted cultural exchange but also emphasized the importance of preserving and celebrating our heritage. Then, final competition among the two best students of all institutions shall be held on December 01, 2023. Supriya Sharma is looking after the Charkha Competition.
Professor Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu, in his message conveyed, "The College on Wheels initiative aims to provide students with a holistic learning experience, combining academic exploration with cultural engagement. The visit to ISRO and IISc offered a unique blend of scientific discovery and technological marvels, while the Charkha competition added a touch of our rich cultural heritage."

Envisioned and conceptualized by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Sh Manoj Sinha, and fully funded by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, the College on Wheels contingent comprised 780 students along with their mentors and the administrative staff from the University of Jammu, University of Kashmir, Cluster University of Jammu, Cluster University of Kashmir, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Katra, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Kashmir, affiliated colleges of JU and KU and Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC), New Delhi.
