Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain today visited the flood affected village Tiwana and nearby area to inspect the ongoing assessment of loss and repair of embankment and roads etc.

She assured the farmers and other affected residents gathered there to compensate each and every penny of their loss as per the commitment of Punjab CM S. Bhagwant Mann.

She said that Derabassi's Ghaggar catchment area has suffered a major loss due to silt and change of river course. We have been recording the loss as per the norms of di-silting and levelling of the fields affected due to change of course of river, said the deputy commissioner.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that the assessment work would be completed by August 15 in order to disburse the compensation in time.She said that the visit was aimed at  to lend  ear to the multiple problems of the affected people who lost their crops, constructions and other infrastructure. 

She assured the farmers and other residents to take immediate action to plug the breached course of the river from Tiwana to align it in an earlier position. The deputy commissioner directed the Executive Engineer Drainage Rajat Grover to take appropriate action with immediate effect to resolve the concern of the people. 

She said that a central team is being expected to visit this area next week and the administration would do its best to get relaxation in disbursement norms by showing them the ground reality.

On demand of temporary mining permits to clear the silted fields, she said that the district Administration is already working on it. She said that the departments of revenue, soil conservation, agriculture and drainage have been directed to work in tandem to record the exact loss of the residents.

She said that with immediate effect we will release some relief to the affected persons too.She was accompanied by the SDM Derabassi Himanshu Gupta, XEN Mandi Board Gaurav, Naib Tehsildar Harinderjit Singh, BDPO Ravneet Kaur and other officers.
