53 percent lifting of wheat purchased till date and 100 percent payment to farmers - Deputy Commissioner

Lifting of wheat continues at full clean along with procurement process of wheat within the Mandis of District Mansa.  Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Baldeep Kaur held a review meeting at the local district administrative complex with representatives of various purchasing agencies, officials, transporters, palledar union to streamline the lifting process in all the markets of the district.  

On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mr. T. Benith, District Food and Civil Supply Controller Mr. Vijay Singla and District Mandi Officer Mr. Salodh Bishnoi were also present.

The Deputy Commissioner said that more than 60 percent of wheat been stored in the FCI cap warehouses in the district.  She said that the wheat is being loaded from the markets directly through the railhead through specials.  

She informed that more than 53 percent lifting of the purchased wheat has been done in 72 hours. The lifting operation start at 06:00 am in the morning and continues till date and stake holders are actively involved in making sure that glut like situation does not develop in the Mandis.

The Deputy Commissioner said that 4, 21, 840 metric tons of wheat was purchased in the markets of the district last year, while compared to last year, 4, 35, 893 metric tons of wheat have been purchased so far.  

Wheat has been sown in an area of 1 lakh 70 thousand hectares within the district.  She said that 6 lakh 40 thousand metric tons of wheat is expected to arrive in the markets, out of which 4, 63,578 metric tons (about 75 percent) of wheat has already arrived in the markets.  

He said that 100 percent payment of 814 crore rupees to the farmers of the purchased wheat has been made through online method.The Deputy Commissioner said that the Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) has been implemented for the first time by the Punjab Government to prevent any possible attempt to illegally import wheat from other states, with complete transparency within the district.

He said that 15 agencies have been empaneled by the state government to install GPS system.She said that vehicle tracking system has been installed on about 1000 trucks related to the purchase.  For procurement of refined wheat, the district has been divided into 17 cartages and 9 transport clusters, which have 200 trucks up to a radius of 8 km and 800 trucks for a radius of 8 km.
