MLA West Gurpreet Bassi Gogi called upon the youth to play a proactive role in wiping out social maladies in the state. Flagging a peace march from local government girls' college on Monday, the MLA said that there was a need to channelize the productive energy of youth in a positive direction so that they could play a constructive role against several social maladies. 

He said that youth must imbibe the ethos of nationalism and service to mankind in their lives which could play an important role in construction of a harmonious society. He said that they must inspire their peers in schools/ colleges for waging a war against social maladies and contribute immensely to nation building. 

Accompanied by Commissioner of Police Mandeep Singh Sidhu, MLA gave a clarion call for wiping out the curse of drugs from the state to make it completely drug free and said that being a border state Punjab was fighting nation’s war against drugs and participation in youth was must for eliminating this curse. 

He said that the Punjab government had already snapped the supply line of drugs through effective measures but the youngsters must come forward for creating massive awareness to check its demand. 

Gogi said that youth could help in saving generations of the state from the curse of drugs. He said that youth should discuss harmful effects of drugs from time to time and also identify signs of drug use among peer groups and encourage them not to indulge in drug abuse. He also asked them to sensitize the society against female foeticide and pollution.
