Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Babila Rakhwal today chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee to review the implementation of the Road Safety plan in the district. The meeting was attended by   SSP, Amit Gupta; ACR Sanjay Badyal; CEO Sunita Rani; ARTO, Rajesh Gupta and other officers and stakeholders.

While interacting with the officers, the DC  emphasised that the  Road Safety Committee was constituted by the Government of J&K with the main objective of reducing road accidents and saving precious human lives and  for better management of traffic within the District.Several agendas were discussed during the meeting . 

The main issues discussed were Formulation of District Road Safety Plan 2023-24,  Identification of Black Spots/Accidental Prone areas for taking corrective measures/repairs & installation of crash barriers/road signages, removal of encroachments from footpaths & roads, organising joint IEC  camps, installation of Speed Limit devices, Availability of Ambulances on NHW near accidental prone areas for immediate shifting in case of any mishaps, recommendation for suspension of driving licenses for violation of traffic rules especially over speeding, drunk driving, use of Mobile phones while driving.

The MVD and Traffic Police authorities were  directed to take strict action against  violators and conduct regular sensitisation of drivers and bikers for ensuring safe driving.Necessary instructions were issued  to the executing agencies for maintenance of roads & installation of crash barriers, with reflecting tape, repair of parapets and other sinages at working sites with emphasis on accident prone areas , implementation of Ribbon Act & Timely submission of ATRs.

The DC directed the concerned authorities for setting up teams of volunteers and QRTs squads for making the public aware to curb the practice of underage and delinquent driving besides handling any type of exigency. The DC stressed on collective efforts that are required to minimise the road accidents in the entire district.

4th Narco Coordination meet reviews Drug abuse eradication measures

The 4th Narco Coordination (NCORD) meeting today reviewed the effectiveness of the measures taken for eradication of Drug menace and Drug Trafficking in theReasi District.  The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner, Babila Rakwal and convened by SSP, Amit Gupta.

At the outset, the SSP threw light on the menace of drugs, drug abuse, its causes and prevention. He briefed about the measures adopted by Reasi police to contain drug peddling and rehabilitation of drug users.The DC laid emphasis on taking effective control measures to contain the menace. 

She called for creating WhatsApp groups for sharing intelligence regarding Narcotic smuggling and its perpetrators among the stakeholders, identify and monitoring of areas where contraband substances are cultivated, spreading awareness among students by screening short Tele-movies in Schools and Colleges on hazards of drug consumption, assessing the requirement of medicines and other medical equipment for the treatment of drug addicts etc.

Feedback on the implementation of decisions of last 3 NCORD meetings was also obtained from the officers and stakeholders.  The SSP also briefed the officers of Excise, Drug Control and Health Department about the measures to be taken for controlling the drug menace.

The meeting stressed on taking measures for controlling the cultivation of Cannabis and Poppy and the stakeholder departments were asked to conduct scientific mapping of the areas of district Reasi where such cultivation is being done. The DSWO Reasi stressed upon the officers to implement the decisions in letter and spirit to make  Reasi a Drug Abuse free district.  

The DC asked for wide publicity of new Helpline No. 9070907017 for collecting information about drug peddlers. She asked to further gearing up the special teams   constituted at P/S level for tracking down the perpetrators of drug abuse and trafficking in Reasi and Katra Towns. .
