Many are aware that on Diwali night, great havoc was wrecked in Canada. Social media users started sharing a video of the altercation in which supporters of Khalistan and Indians were seen fighting. There was sloganeering and a face-off between hundreds of people. According to the reports, the incident occurred in the Malton area.

In the footage, police officers are seen making an effort to separate crowds while celebrating Diwali. The so-called supporters of the Khalistan referendum carried signs and shouted "Raj Karega Khalsa," while another group of Indians chanted "Khalistan Murdabad."

But now the High Commissioner of Canada has shown his disappointment over the matter. According to Cameron MacKay, Canada's high commissioner to India, the country "does not support and does not recognise" the so-called "Khalistan referendums" that are routinely carried out in that nation by outlawed Sikh organisations and favours a "United India."

In an interview with a reputable news source, MacKay stated that these alleged referendums are regarded as "private activities" in that nation and that under Canadian law, "people have the right to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression."

Earlier, the purported Khalistan referendum that is scheduled to take place on November 6 in Ontario, as planned by a prohibited organisation, would violate India's territorial integrity and sovereignty, according to a demarche sent by the Narendra Modi administration in India to the Justin Trudeau-led Canadian government.

To this, Mackay said, “Canadian government does not support, does not recognise the so-called ‘Khalistan referendum.' Canada supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India — a united India.”

He further emphasised that Indian counterparts and Canadian security and intelligence officials "operate very closely together." When it comes to terrorism and extremism, we are all completely in agreement, he remarked.

He continued by saying that Ottawa shared his concerns about transnational crime between Canada and India.
