International Day of Older Persons : DLSA Udhampur hosts awareness program on Rights of Senior Citizens

District Legal Services Authority, Udhampur, under the guidance of DLSA Chairman, on Saturday organized an Awareness programme on International Day of Older Persons at Senior Citizen’s Club Udhampur. The aim of the programme was to create awareness on Rights of Senior Citizens. 

This year, the theme for the International Day of Older Persons is “Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World”.The Resource Persons of the Programme were Panel Lawyers Adv. Sanjeet Kumar and Adv. Akhil Dubey. 

The Resource Persons made the participants aware about various Welfare Schemes pertaining to the Senior Citizens. The Resource persons threw light on the importance of Celebration of International Day of Older Persons and raised awareness about issues affecting the elderly such as Elder Abuse, Physical Impairments, Communication Difficulties, Emotional and Social Problems.

The Programme was organized in Collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Help age India (Elder Line Help Line) Udhampur. The participants included Dr. Adarsh, Chairman Senior Citizen Club Udhampur, Mr. Mahadeep Singh Jamwal, President Senior Citizen’s Club Udhampur, Col. (Retd.) Mr. Balwant Singh Vice President Senior Citizen’s Club Udhampur, Mr. Raj Guru General Secretary Senior Citizen’s Club Udhampur,  Mr. Shiv Dev Singh President Ramnagar Branch Senior Citizen’s Club Udhampur, Shashi Shikar Thapa President  Branch Chenani Senior Citizens Club Udhampur, Ms. Meena Kumari Incharge One Stop Centre Udhampur, Ms. Shital Incharge Mahila Shakti Kendra Udhampur and Mr. Mohd. Neasar Ali Baig Incharge Help age India (Elder Line Helpline) Udhampur.

Later, the Secretary DLSA Udhampur, Ms. Rajni Sharma, while thanking the participants, encouraged the elderly people to embrace life and always remain positive. She said that the International Day of Older Persons on 1st of October is a key opportunity to celebrate the lives of our Senior Citizens, while highlighting both the opportunities and challenges that ageing presents in the present changing times.

The Secretary DLSA Udhampur further stressed upon the need to safeguard all basic rights which are vital to a human life especially to Senior Citizens and Elderly and said that the Legal Service Institutions are duty bound to provide necessary help to the older persons.
