Eco club and Department of Environmental Sciences of Government SPMR College of Commerce, in collaboration with Paryavran Sanrakshan Gatividhi, Jammu organised a series of activities to mark  "Rashtra Ke Naam Paryavaran Saptah" started on August 15th 2022.

During the Celebration different awareness programs related to Environment were conducted in which Students participated with enthusiasm.The special series of programs started on Independence Day, 15th August with the hoisting of the National Flag, followed by Plantation Drive and cultural program on patriotic songs., Ajay Kotwal and Amit Pal Singh, students of the College performed on the occasion.

Collection of E-waste was conducted on 16th of August 2022 in the College. Faculty and students collected electrical and electronic waste from their homes as well as neighbourhood and submitted it to the college. People were also made aware about E-waste and its safe disposal.

A competition on Best out of waste was organised on 17th August, 2O22 in which students prepared beautiful and useful items from solid waste. Ms. Shajel Bhat, Ms.Simrandeep Kaur and Ms. Deepasha bagged 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes respectively.

A Cleanliness drive, inside the college campus, was conducted on 18th August 2022, followed by demonstration of making eco-bricks and the concept of composting. These activities were aimed at promoting proper disposal of solid waste both biodegradable and non-biodegradable.

An online Inter-College Essay writing competition was conducted on 19th August 2022 on the theme "Freedom from Pollution" in which 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes were bagged by Nitika Kochhar, Akhil Sharma and  Manmeet Singh, respectively.

Similarly, an online Inter- College competition on Nature Photography was held on 20th August 2022 wherein students captured different aspects of nature. The activity aimed at inculcating an eye for beauty in nature among the young minds. 

The lst prize was bagged by   Ankush Kotwal from Govt. SPMR College of Commerce, 2nd prize was won by  Krishan Kumar from GDC Bishnah, while 3rd prize was shared by  Pankaj Kumar and Vivek Dogra from GDC Bishnah.

The last day of the week-long activities witnessed an online Inter-College poster making competition on the theme "Environment and Us" . The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd  prizes were bagged by Shailendri Pal, Tarun Kumar and Manmeet Singh, respectively.

Prof. Monika Mahajan of the host College and Dr Asha Singh, HoD, Department of Environmental Sciences, GDC Bishnah judged the activities.The activities were coordinated by Dr Deepak Pathania, ENO along with Pratha Khajuria, Manmeet Singh and Rohit Kumar, student members of the Eco club.

At the valedictory function, Principal of the college, Prof. Archana Kaul, lauded the Department of Environmental Sciences and Eco club for organising such activities. She further stated that such programs will help in inculcating eco consciousness among the students of the college.

Dr Nazia Rasool, HOD, Department of Environmental Sciences also highlighted the importance of conducting such programs in generating awareness among students in particular and masses in general.Faculty members present on the occasion were Prof. Barbara Kaul, HOD Commerce, Prof. Sandhya BhardwaJ, NS Coordinator, CLUJ, Prof. Savita Jamwal, ANO, Prof. Monlka Mahaian and Prof. Apfan Ali.

In her formal vote of thanks, Dr Deepak Pathania, expressed her gratitude to Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi, Jammu committee members and students participants.
