Director Animal Husbandry Department Jammu, Krishan Lal today flagged off fresh batch of 40 Multipurpose Artificial Insemination Technicians (MAITRI)s for attending   three month long training programme at the Artificial Insemination Training Institute Bathinda (Punjab).

Speaking on the occasion, the Director Animal Husbandry Jammu said that MAITRIs are chosen among the unemployed educated youth from across the districts of Jammu province to generate self-employment avenues and are established under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission scheme. 

The MAITRIS are multipurpose workers with the primary function of Artificial Insemination. “They will also take up other important associated tasks in the rural areas viz. Veterinary first aid, livestock vaccinations etc” he said.The Director further said that after successful completion of the training programme, MAITRIs would be provided all the necessary support for undertaking assigned works by the Livestock Development Board Jammu. “Artificial Insemination work by  MAITRIs in their allotted villages will go a long way in ensuring breed improvement of local cattle/buffaloes resulting in the increased milk production” he said.Chief Executive Officer Livestock Development Board Jammu, Dr. Tariq Parvez, besides other senior officers and staff of the Animal Husbandry Department Jammu were also present on the occasion.
