Faculty Development Programme “Technological Advancement in Education, Management and Law”  organized by the School of Education in collaboration with Ideal Institute of Management and Technology, Delhi under the scheme of PMMMNMTT. 

The Faculty development program (FDP) is an endeavour toward fostering the knowledge and professional skills of faculty members to improve their performance in education, research, and administration.Theprogramme received an overwhelming response with over 70  participantsfrom  various reputed universities across India.

Prof. (Dr.) Deepa Sikand Kauts, Dean, Faculty of Education, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar welcomed the chief guest, speakers and participants while sharing the objective behind organizing this FDP.The dignitaries were then felicitated through a virtual presentation of bouquets and Idols bestowed as a token of gratitude by Ms. Jasmandeep Kaur, Sr. Assistant Professor, IIMT.

Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu. Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University graced the occasion as the chief guest.While  addressing the participants, he emphasized on the importance of gratitude and grace as being pivotal in an academicians career and stressed that the accolades should never get in the way of the education.

Prof. Sandhu very rightly remarked that the teachers must remain humble at all times throughout their career as they are not only teachers but also inspiration for the upcoming professionals. He further extended his blessing towards the successful execution of the One Week FDP.

Prof. (Dr.) Amit Kauts, Project Coordinator, SoE, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, welcomed Prof. Santosh Panda, Director, Staff Training and Research Institute of Distance Education (STRIDE), IGNOU, New Delhi. Prof. Kauts highlighted that professional development is a collective resource which forges powerful links among teacher, learning and student growth.

Adding to it, Prof. Kauts enumerated how professional development can lead to the improvements in the quality of the Indian institutions and subsequent improvement in the global ranking of institutes. Prof Kauts also referred to the National Education policy which has listed essential criteria which must be adhered to and followed by the new methods that have been introduced in the pandemic era which proved a boon and increased connectivity amongst the educational fraternity. Further, he also referred to the increasing role of digital platforms in the present times which is being successfully used in Court procedures, litigation, and other fields too.

Prof. (Dr.) Santosh Panda, delivered the inaugural address and congratulated the Institutes for choosing a very pertinent topic i.e. “Technological Advancement in Education, Management and Law” for the FDP. Prof Panda talked about foundational principles like Indian culture and values, literature, bharatiya maths and focused on rediscovering multi-disciplinary education.

He elaborated on establishment of Higher education commission for structural changes & discussed about credit-based system for under graduate programs whereby environmental awareness values and life skills are also to be included in credit-based system.  An academic bank of credits with credit transfer system is to be established. Multiple entry and exit systems are to be established and university with the largest credits will confer degree.

He talked about skill based education for which national skill qualification frame work to be established. On the same lines national higher education qualification framework based on learning outcomes life skills research and problem solving in under graduate courses will also be put to practice. He put deliberations on congruence of teaching research and employability great impetus needs to be given to outcome based learning, graduate attributes, evidence based teaching and learning.

He elaborated on social life skills, happiness, value education, job related skills as graduate attributes. He also gave inputs on delivery modes like on campus learning, distance learning, online learning, E-learning. blended learning and mobile learning. He emphasized transformation of STEM TO STEAM education.

To conclude sir expected an online teacher to be a mentor, manager assessor, instructor, researcher, content expert, co learner, advisor, facilitator, supporter and designer. Overall takeaway of the session was enlightened individuals with respect to NEP 2020 recommendations.

The closing remarks were then delivered byProf. (Dr.) Anil Parkash Sharma.  Hon’ble Director, IIMT, who very eloquently explained the lacunae prevalent in the technological aspect of education thereby leading to the question of efficacy in learning. He applauded the efforts of the organizing committee in their articulate choice of topic and of the fluent collaboration between the two institutions in the successful execution of the program. 

Prof. Sharma also referred to the key points put forward by the Hon’ble speakers for the day in introducing blended learning and of a robust choice based credit system with multiple entry and exit points in the courses which are very much essential for effective and skilled learning that may turn useful in attainment of sound employment opportunities.
