Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said here today that there had been intensive loss to life and property in the State especially in tribal district of  Kinnaur on 16th and 17th June, 2013 due to incessant rains, landslides and untimely snowfall. He said that he had personally visited the Kinnaur district to take stock of situation and stayed there for three days and directed the officers for carrying out relief and restoration works on war footing. He said that there had been heavy loss to pea crop, rajmah, apple and other cash crops in the Kinnaur district and suitable compensation would be given to those affected by the disaster.

Chief Minister said that essential commodities and other food items were being made available to the villages which had been cut off  from district headquarters Reckong Peo adding that  an alternative path was being constructed to Sharang valley besides constructing  a bailey bridge on Baspa river. He said that damaged water supply schemes and power supply were being restored on war footing besides providing adequate medicines and pesticides in the areas.  He said that adequate fuel has been dispatched for the machinery involved in clearance of roads.

He said that four senior officers of Forest Department had been deputed in Kinnaur district for carrying out relief and rehabilitation works. He said that helicopters sorties were conducted for evacuating the local stranded people in district Kinnaur which would continue in future also. Shri Virbhadra Singh said that Government would ensure adequate relief to the sufferers on priority and would provide them assistance at their doorsteps.
