Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal promised Punjab truck operators that the problems of transporters would be addressed on priority basis with the formation of Aam Aadmi Party government in the state. The transport mafia will be eradicated. A commission consisting of truck operators and transporters will be formed, the decisions of which will be implemented by the AAP government. Kejriwal made the announcement while addressing a group of truck operators on a dharna against the Punjab government at Zirakpur today. Arriving at the truck operators' dharna on Thursday, Arvind Kejriwal, after receiving a memorandum from the protesters, announced that the Aam Aadmi Party would accede to all the demands of the truck operators in Punjab. Kejriwal said, "I have come to you as your brother, not as a political leader. It would be my good fortune if I could solve your problems and save your livelihood. I need you for that. So, give 'Aap' a chance. You won’t need to stage another dharna ever.” Assuring that the problems of Punjab transporters related to Delhi would be resolved, Kejriwal also invited the truck operators to come to Delhi so that a proper solution could be found by meeting the transporters and Delhi officials.

Promising a permanent solution to the problems of transporters in Punjab, Arvind Kejriwal said, "A commission of 10 to 15 members would be constituted for the transport sector in Punjab, comprising representatives of the state's transporter unions. This commission will formulate the new transport policy and not the officers and ministers sitting in AC rooms. The AAP government will implement the decisions of this commission so that the problems faced by the people involved in this business, including truck operators, can be resolved from time to time,” Kejriwal said, while accepting the demands, that the practice of contracting in the transport sector and overloading should be stopped. Kilometre policy should be implemented and all taxes during Covid pandemic time should be waived. He said that it was the transporters of Punjab who had campaigned for the Aam Aadmi Party and had sent four members of the party from Punjab to Parliament of our country.

Addressing the gathering, the National Convener of AAP said that there was a rift between traders and truck operators in Punjab and this rift would be brought to an end by the AAP government so that the traders could conduct their business and the truck operators could continue their employment. He said that with the increase in trade, the business of transport would also increase. Therefore, corruption will be eradicated from Punjab as they have done in Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal said that the Aam Aadmi Party government has provided good and affordable education, treatment, electricity, free water and other facilities to the people of Delhi. The facilities available to the people of Delhi will be provided to the people of Punjab too by the AAP government. AAP Punjab President and Member of Parliament Bhagwant Mann and party candidate from Dera Bassi Kuljit Singh Randhawa also addressed the protesters. Truck operators honoured Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann.
