The Punjab Government has received four HF Breed bulls which have been imported from Germany. The Punjab Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said that under the Rastria Gokal Mission, the National Dairy Development Board has imported Elite Bulls to enhance Germ Plasm of crossbreed cows in the country. He said that Bulls provided to Punjab would not only give a boost to milk production but also help to improve breed of milch cattle in the state. The Minister said that as everyone is aware that traditional Agriculture is no longer a lucrative sector for farmers due to rapidly increasing cost of food production, therefore the Punjab Government is focusing hard on developing dairy as an allied farming sector in the state, thus providing free insemination, free vaccination services and other services to the livestock farmers in the state to make dairy a profitable sector. He said that the Animal Husbandry Department charges nominal fees  from the livestock farmers for most of the services. The Additional Chief Secretary of the Animal Husbandry Department Mr. VK Janjua informed that the imported HF Bulls are in the age group of 10 to 12 months and semen production will duly start within next 2 years. He further added that during first Year, around 8,000 -10,000 Semen Straw production is expected from these bulls which will increase to 25000 semen straws in coming years. He said that exotic Germplasm will be introduced into the local gene pool resulting in overall improvement of the breed. Dr HS Kahlon, Director Animal Husbandry Punjab said that these imported four Bulls have been kept at Semen Bank Roop Nagar under the supervision of experts.
