Shutdown called by Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani against the spurious drug supplies in Kashmir evoked mixed response on Saturday. Reports of protests against fake drug scam were received from various parts of the valley.Shops, business establishments and schools in the valley were closed and public transport was off the roads though private transport was seen plying on city roads. However, most of the banks were functioning normally while the government offices by and large remained open.Peaceful protest demonstrations against fake drug scam were held in various districts including Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopain, Baramula and Kupwara.

Protestors were demanding judicial probe and suspension of allegedly involved officials.Inspector General of Police said that situation remained peaceful and no untoward incident occurred. “Situation over all remained peaceful”, IGP told 5DARIYANEWS.Syed Ali Geelani had called for a general strike to protest against the spurious drugs scandal. Geelani has also demanded registration of a case against ex health minister and officials incharge of procuring drugs for government hospitals. The reports of partial to complete shutdown reached from all the district headquarters in north, south and central Kashmir.
