Punjab State Women Commission chairperson Mrs. Manisha Gulati today asked the higher officials of the police department to evolve new policy for the early disposal of the  dowry case properties lying in abundant in the police stations of the state. She was presiding over a meeting at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration’s  Conference Hall to resolve the problem faced by women, which was attended by Senior Vice Chairperson Mrs. Bimla Sharma, Vice Chairperson Mrs. Amritveer Kaur, Members  Mrs. Shalini Sharma, Mrs. Kiranpreet Kaur Dhami, Mrs. Inderjit Kaur, Mrs. Jagdarshan Kaur, Mrs. Madhu Sharma, Mrs. Rajeshwari Koshish, Mrs. Sarvjit Kaur Mann and Mrs.  Kuldeep Sapna and ADGP Punjab Police Mr. B. Chandar Shekhar. During the meeting, matter related to release the recovered case property in the dowry cases, which are  pending in the courts of the state, is discussed threadbare.Speaking on the issue, the Chairperson said, during frequent visits to the police stations, it has been found that dowry  case property is often lying in the open area and deteriorating day by day, which should be handed over to the concerned party with the permission of the court as soon as the  case begins.ADGP Mr. Shekhar apprised that lack of space in the police stations led to this problem. “If plaintiffs apply in the court immediately after the case begins, the  belongings could be released on the court’s order after obtaining report from the police”, he added. ADGP also informed that in many cases, the dowry property is not picked up  from girl’s family. Hence, the police department is devising a new policy, under which three notices will be issued to the concerned party and if the goods are not collected, the  money will be deposited in the government treasury by auctioning the same.Commission members suggested the chairperson that police department should be instructed to first  make a counseling of both the spouse prior to registering a complaint. Mrs. Gulati appealed to all the members to sensitize the women about the welfare schemes and  constitutional rights.
