Deputy Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar on Tuesday asked the Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Police Officials to initiate crackdown against the Chinese kite string in the district.They directed them to conduct the raids and ensure no sale of Chinese string occurred in their jurisdictions.Presiding over a meeting with SDMs and Police Officials in the district administrative complex, they told them to form flying squads involving civil and police and confiscate the Chinese kite string and take action as per the orders.They directed them to register cases against the sellers who will be found violating the orders and selling the Chinese kite string.They said that the district administration had already banned the sale/purchase and storage of Chinese string or plastic thread in the district under section 144 of CRPC. They said that this string is very harmful and can easily cause injury to animals and humans. They said that many incidents had already reported where the humans mostly two-wheelers and animals were injured due to string.They added that these plastic kite strings do not break easily and commuters on two-wheelers and animals often get entangled in these leading to bruises.
They said that the string is also dangerous to the environment as these do not decompose easily.Further, they said that daily reporting of raids must be sent to their offices so that the Chinese kite string can be completely eliminated. They told that the serious efforts would be made to curb the sale of this hazardous Chinese kite string.On the occasion, DCP Mr Amrik Singh Powar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr Jasbir Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrates Amit Kumar, Dr Sanjiv Sharma, Dr Jai Inder Singh and Dr Vineet Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Mr Amanpreet Singh and others were also present.
