District Development Commissioner Pulwama Dr Raghav Langer convened a meeting of officers to review the progress registered under Horticulture and Agriculture sectors in the district, here today.The meeting was attended by Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer and other concerned.On the occasion, Chief Agriculture Officer informed the meeting that under Union Territory Budget Rs 868.477 lakhs were allotted out of which Rs 14.3575 lakhs were expended till December while under KCC scheme against a target of 60300 Form Operating Families (FOF) 48889 have been provided loan of Rs. 630.2085 crore.The meeting was informed that 60 Hectare land will be brought under Organic Vegetable Cultivation to achieve annual production target of 3600MTs in the district.While giving project wise details and achievements registered under National Saffron Mission, the meeting was apprised that 3200 Hectares are scheduled to be covered under rejuvenation component. Reviewing the Horticulture sector, the DDC was informed that under different Schemes Rs 629.4 lakhs were expended while under Major Components 25 Mini Tractors, 71 Power Tiller of 8 bh & above, 800 Motor Power Sprayer, 120 Bush Cutter, 59 Deep Bore Wells, 77 Pack House and 21 Vermicompost Units were Provided to the orchardists of the district.It was informed that 242 cases of KCC were forwarded to different banks out of which 197 cases have been sanctioned till date and amount of Rs 327.46 lakh disbursed to the farmers. Besides 10 Hectares were covered under Ultra High Density programme through private entrepreneurs.The DDC said that Agriculture and Horticulture sectors are vital for economy and sustainable development. He stressed for the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices and novel methods to double the farmers income.While expressing concern over the trend of land conversion particularly Saffron Land for commercial and residential purposes, the DDC directed for effective measures to curb the menace.The DDC directed CAO and CHO for effective implementation of schemes related to welfare of farmers and to ensure timely expenditure of funds available under various schemes.
