District Development Commissioner, Budgam Tariq Hussain Ganai today said that the District Administration is launching a massive weeklong market checking drive across district from 25th December.The DDC was speaking at an awareness programme organized by Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department in connection with National Consumer Day under the theme “Trusted Smart Products.”During the programme resource persons spoke on the rights of the consumers and laws safeguarding against unfair trade practices.Among others, the programme was attended by ACD, AD FCS&CA, AD FSA, concerned officials and a large gathering of locals.The DDC said that in order to ensure sale of standard and quality products to the consumers and to curb hoarding, black marketing, overcharging and sale of sub-standard products by shopkeepers, a massive market checking drive is being launched from Wednesday, 25th December. He said that a team of officers and officials of various departments including FCS&CA, Legal Metrology, Revenue, Weights and Measures and police departments will jointly launch the drive across the district. Meanwhile, District Legal Service Authority (DLSA), Budgam also organized a daylong awareness programme to sensitize students about consumer rights and laws against unfair trade practices at Al Asma School Budgam.The daylong programme was presided over by the Secretary DLSA and Munsiff Judge Budgam Tabasum Qadir Parray.Among others the programme was attended by Advocates, para legal volunteers, officials, teachers and a large gathering of students.Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary DLSA deliberated on the Consumer Protection Act 1986 and consumer rights.
