The Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa today morning conducted a surprise check at Ropar and Hoshairpur jails. During the checking, 3 jail employees were found using mobile phones in contravention of the rules. On the directions of the jails minister, the department suspended 2 employees while directing PESCO to take action against the third.Reiterating the commitment of the Punjab Government to ensure security of Punjab jails, the minister conducted a surprise check at 7:10 AM in Ropar jail to take stock of the ground situation. During the checking, Head Constable Pargat Singh and Warder Satwinder Pal Singh were caught using mobile phones. On the directions of the minister, the department has decided to place these 2 under suspension and issue show cause notice. After this, S. Randhawa visited Hoshiarpur jail at 8:49 AM and caught PESCO warder Budh Singh using mobile. The Jail Department has asked PESCO to promptly remove the employee.The spokesperson of the jail department said that the minister had in the meeting of all the jail superintendents on 1st of May, 2018 decided that no employee lower than the rank of Superintendent would use mobile inside the jail premises. In the aftermath, the ADGP Jails vide a communication dated 17th May, 2018 to all the superintendents, had apprised all the jail wardens about the orders of the minister and also that anybody found violating these orders would be strictly proceeded against.The minister further added that no laxity would be tolerated in the matter of the security of jails and those indulging in the violation of the rules would face action. He also added that the security of jails is a very sensitive issue which is directly connected with the law & order and therefore no laxity can be tolerated.
