Chairperson of Punjab State Women Commission, Manisha Gulati held a meeting with Inter Departmental Prevention of Sexual Harassment Committees about to know the status of plaints of sexual harassment at workplaces. In this meeting representatives of Health, Education and Local Bodies Department were present.Mrs. Gulati said that Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 seeks to protect women from sexual harassment at their place of work, be it in public or private. This will contribute to realisation of their right to gender equality, life and liberty and equality in working conditions everywhere.Chairperson said that the law aims to equip organizations to handle a workplace-related evil, not give women undue power or to put men in fear. It is true that women-friendly laws have been misused in the recent past in some cases, this trend won’t be tolerated. Committees members should become more sensitive and more careful to check the genuineness of complaints before taking adverse action on these complaints because someone career is at the stake.In this meeting representatives of Health, DPI(S), DPI(E), Techinal Education and Directorate of Local Bodies were present.
