LeT militant killed in Handwara gunfight

An unidentified militant was killed in a brief gunfight at Batpora area of Magam in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Thursday.A police spokesman in a statement issued to GNS said that a joint team of 47 RR and SOG cordoned off the Batpora area-close to the forests following specific inputs about the presence of militants."During the searches, a hiding militant fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated and in the ensuing encounter, the militant was killed by the joint patrol. No collateral damage was witnessed during the encounter," the spokesman said.On the basis of the incriminating materials recovered, the slain is learned to be a foreigner (Pakistani national) and was affiliated to LeT, he said.Some arms and ammunition were also recovered from the encounter site. Police have registered a case and investigation has been initiated in the instant matter.In the ensuing gunfight, an unidentified militant was killed, he said.The militant, according to sources fled in an injured condition while his associate was killed during a gunfight on the night of June 9.
