Krishi Vigyan Kendra Faridkot organised Webcasting of Prime Minister Interaction with SHG and Women entrepreneurs at its campus on 12-7-2018 in which 85 participants including farmers and farm women took part.This program was organised in context with Honourable Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi's address to the farm women from across the nation. The participants were made aware about how women can increase their income through formation of SHG.Special arrangements were made for the screening of Prime Ministerial address.A Farmer- Scientist interaction was also held on this occasion, in which participants were apprised about PAU recommended agricultural technologies for Kharif crops. During the technical session, Dr Jagdish Grover, Associate Director (T) apprised the participants about the role of KVK in upliftment of farming community.He also shared his views regarding the ways through which the income of the farming community could be increased.Dr Gurdarshan Singh, Assistant Professor ( Horticulture) stated that vegetable based cropping systems would help the farmers in realising the Prime Minister's dream of doubling farmers' income by 2022.
He shared information regarding off season cultivation of vegetables. Dr. Sukhwinder Singh, Assistant Professor ( Soil Sci.) urged the farmers to go for need based fertilizer application on the basis of Soil Health cards. He shared information on how to read Soil Health Cards. Dr Gurlal Singh Gill, Assistant Professor (Animal Science) shared his views on management of diseases in milch animals. He encouraged the farmers to adopt allied enterprises viz. dairy farming, poultry and fisheries on commercial lines. Dr. Jaswinder Kaur Brar, Professor (Home Science) shared her views regarding dietary importance of fruit and vegetables. She motivated the farm women to adopt subsidiary occupations viz. Processing of fruit and vegetables, soap and detergent making, bakery etc. Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Associate Professor (Agricultural Engineering) apprised the participants about processing of dal and oilseeds. He discussed about the finer aspects of Agro Processing Centres, as establishment of these units would help farmers in enhancing their income. In the end certificates were distributed among the participants who successfully completed Tie Dye training organized at KVK from 4-7-18 to 8-7-18.
