Chairperson of Punjab State Women commissionManisha Gulati met with External affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi. She raised the issue regarding plight of women sufferings due to betrayals and exploitations by NRI grooms with Union Minister and urged for her help to curb this menace.Mrs. Gulati said that present and previous governments passed many laws to protect the women being exploited by NRI's but somehow the menace of exploitation hasn't been curtailed. She said that more than 30000 legal cases are pending in Punjab alone, in which NRI's presumably abandoning their wives. These exploited women need help immediately. She said that if preliminary inquiry in india reveals that the concerned NRI is in the ambit of conviction than his extradition process initiated immediately and his passport confiscated till he compensate the aggrieved wife. This bold decision saves many lives in India particularly in Punjab and alert other NRI's who wants to twist with the law for his vested interests without fearing its consequences.Chairperson also urged to take appropriate action and to make stringent laws. She said that the External Affairs Minister assured the appropriate action in this matter.
