“The Punjab Government under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh is fully committed to provide every necessary assistance to the women who are victims of acid attack and treats such cases on priority basis.”Disclosing this in a statement, the Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister, Punjab, Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary said that acid attacks are a blot on the society and are a symbol of sick mentality.The minister while disclosing the measures undertaken by the present state government since taking over, said that up till March 2018 a total of 12 women have been provided with the assistance of Rs. 8000 Per Month under the acid attack victims scheme. She further elaborated that not only this but the budget amounting to Rs. 10 lakh has been sanctioned in this regard for the year 2018-2019 so as to leave no stone unturned in coming to the aid of the victims of acid attack. She also elaborated that the same amount i.e. Rs. 10 lakh was sanctioned for the year 2017-18 also.Mrs. Chaudhary also divulged that the acid attack victim would be eligible for pension from the date of submitting her application, which is to be submitted to the District Social Security Officer, provided that the disability percentage is 40 percent or more and she possesses disability certificate which can be procured free of cost from the district civil surgeon.Emphasizing the aspect of transparency, the minister highlighted that the financial assistance scheme is being monitored very minutely and every District Social Security Officer has to maintain complete record of the relief provided to the acid attack victims and ensure that the detailed report with regard to this aspect is sent to the Departmental Headquarter at regular intervals.Reiterating the commitment of the government to help acid attack victims, Mrs. Chaudhary said that the Punjab Government stands shoulder to shoulder with them in their hour of need.
