Rosatom supplies electric heaters for Kudankulam n-plants

Russian nuclear energy group Rosatom has completed supply of three electric heaters for the first and second 1,000 MW nuclear power units at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu ahead of schedule, the company said.JSC SverdNIIchimmash - part of the machine building division of Rosatom - Atomenergomash - has completed supply of three electric heaters of hydrogen combustion system for the first and second units at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu, owned by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd."The amount of the contract concluded in April 2016 is more than 21 million rubles ($350,000)," Rosatom told IANS.Rosatom said the electric heaters were supplied four months ahead of schedule in compliance with NPCIL's demand.

The hydrogen combustion system is designed for cleaning waste gases from nuclear power reactors.

The function of the electric heaters is to heat vapor-gas mixture up to the temperature, which excludes moisture condensation on catalyzer of contact apparatus in the process of hydrogen combustion.According to Rosatom, such equipment was supplied to Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant-2, Tianwan NPP in China and Belarusian NPP in 2016.Having a reach experience in development of electric heaters JSC SverdNIIchimmash continuously improves production of this type of equipment making modifications in design thereof and applying new technologies.JSC Atomenergomash is the supplier of the key equipment for Kudankulam nuclear power project.The company produces steam generators, main circulating pumps, pressure compensators, main circulating pipelines, pipe accessories, auxiliary pumps and other equipment of reactor island and turbine island for nuclear power plants 3 and 4 at Kudankulam.
