Archaeological Survey of India Workers Union Friday staged a protest outside their Lal Mandi office here in Srinagar city.Scores of ASI workers carrying placards of banners said that a large number of Group D employees have been rendering their service against the posts of Monument Attendants and equivalent official designation from last 25 years. They said that in light of DOPT directions and the nature of their job the department has conferred them with the 1/30th status and are being paid on the analogy of permanent Group D employees with minimum basic pay and other facilities. However, their services have not been regularized despite the fact that they have put a long period of their life in serving the department and contrary to any help the department has referred the vacant Group D (now MTS) posts to SSC for filling them up by fresh recruitment against a nationalized advertisement. The protesting employees urged the government to stop new recruitment and regularize them as per norms.
