Army Chief visits Nagrota attack; soldier injured in Poonch

Day after deadly Fidayeen attack left two officers among five soldiers dead, Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag today visited the Nagrota-based 16 Corps headquarters and was briefed about the attack.Reports said that General Suhag arrived in Nagrota in the afternoon and was briefed by the top commanders on the Fidayeen attack at an army artillery unit. Reports from Jammu said he was also briefed about the combing operations that were carried out today.He reviewed the security aspect post militant attack and paid tributes to those killed in the strike, the reports said. Three militants were also killed in the operation. In the meanwhile, the Army today claimed that the Nagrota militant attack in Nagrota was carried out by Jaish-e-Mohammad.The army during combing operations has recovered some documents and other material indicating that the three militant who had launched the attack attack belonged JeM. The paper chits recovered from the encounter site also indicated that JeM’s Afzal Guru Squad.Meanwhile, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of Indian army was injured after being hit by sniper fire from across the border on Wednesday, sources said here. JCO Dewan Singh of 12 Jat regiment was hit on his chest in Gulpur sector of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. He was airlifted to an army hospital in Udhampur for treatment, a report here said.(GNS)
