Five matches on the ninth day of Dr BR Ambedkar 6th World Cup Kabaddi 2016 were held at newly constructed Baba Kala Mahir Multipurpose Stadium, here today. Cabinet Minister Sikandar Singh Maluka was the chief guest on the occasion, who also inaugurated the newly constructed stadium. Hockey Olympian Deepak Thakur was also present on the occasion.In today’s matches of Pool A of men section, India and England scored their fourth consecutive victories and entered the semi finals. India defeated Canada by 54-35 while England defeated Sri Lanka by 62-21. In another match, Sierra Leone defeated Sweden by 43-35 and in a match of Pool B men section, Kenya defeated Tanzania by 62-26. In women section, Kenya defeated Sri Lanka by 37-24.Prominent among those present on the occasion included MLA Sant Balbir Singh Ghunas, ex MLA Ajit Singh Shant, Darbara Singh Guru, District Planning Board chairman Rupinder Singh Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner Bhupinder Singh Rai, SSP Gurpreet Singh Toor, SGPC members Paramjit Singh Khalsa and Dalbar Singh Chiniwal, Punjab Kabaddi Association vice chairman Tejinder Singh Middukhera, Deputy Director Sports Department Rupinder Singh Ravi, Assistant Director Kartar Singh Sehamby, besides several others.

 

Match 1: India Defeat Canada By 54-35:

In first match of the day, five time World Cup Kabaddi champion India defeated Canada by 54-35. With this victory, the Indian team entered the Semi Finals. Indian raiders Sultan scored 11, Raju and Sukhjinder Kala Dhanaula 10 each and Sandeep scored 7 points, while stoppers Lovepreet secured 4 and Ranjodh and Khushdeep secured 2 points each. For Canada, Manveer scored 11, Manpreet 8 and Ranjodh 7 points while stopper Baljit Singh Saidoke secured 1 point.

 

Match 2: Sierra Leone Defeat Sweden By 43-35:

In an interesting match, Sierra Leone defeated Sweden by 43-35 and scored their first victory of the World Cup Kabaddi 2016. For Sierra Leone, raiders Jasis scored 9 and Samual scored 8 while stoppers Mohammad and Falis secured 6 and 5 points respectively. For Sweden, raiders Khushwinder Singh scored 10 and Raj Kumar scored 5 points while stoppers Harwinder secuored 7 and Jap Singh secured 4 points.

 

Match 3: England Defeat Sri Lanka By 62-21:

In men section match of pool A, England defeated Sri Lanka by 62-21 and entered the semi finals. For England, raiders Gurdeep Gopi and Gurdit scored 9 points each, while stopper Amandeep Riar secured 7 and Kamaldeep secured 6 points. For Sri Lanka, raider Im Nasim and Prasanna scored 3 points each.

 

Match 4: Women Section: Kenya Defeat Sri Lanka By 37-24:

In fourth match of the day, Kenya defeated Sri Lanka by 37-24. For Kenya, raiders Sofia scored 14 and Lilian scored 7 points, while stoppers Nadung and Mickey secured 7 and 4 points respectively. For Sri Lanka, raider Damyanti and P Kumari scored 8 and 2 points respectively and stopper MMD secured 3 points.

 

Match 5: Kenya Defeat Tanzania By 62-26:

In last match of the day, Kenya defeated Tanzania by 62-26. For Kenya, raiders Masis Rambo scored 16 points while Halis scored 10 points and stopper Robin secured 9 and Kavin secured 5 points. Similarly, for Tanzania, raider Gasper and Benzamin scored 7 and 5 points respectively and stopper Moosa secured 5 points.
