Hurriyat (M) Tuesday said that Jammu and Kashmir even before 1947 was not a part of India and will never be an integral part of India. It is a disputed territory, the final status of which has yet to be determined in accordance with several resolutions of the UN Security Council and as per the wishes and aspirations of the people who are its inhabitants.The conglomerate said the first Prime Minister of India, Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had accepted this reality and promised the people of J&K at the historic Lal Chowk their right to self determination and reiterated this promise to the world community at the United Nations.So the statement of Indian External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj backtracking from India's commitment to the same UN and instead justifying India's military occupation of Kashmir by calling it an "integral part" is unfortunate and misleading and does no good to India's credentials of being the "world’s largest democracy". The statement of Swaraj, was also an attempt to deflect the world attention from state terrorism and grave human right violations being committed against the people of J&K by the Indian state and its agencies, especially in the past three months, to crush the peoples struggle for self determination. Despite GOI efforts the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) has issued a very strong statement regarding the human rights situation in the valley asking India "what precisely are you hiding from us?" and placed India in the bracket of countries which are witnessing large scale human rights violations like Syria and do not allow UN mission teams to visit their countries.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) condemned the use of excessive force on the peaceful protest demonstrations at 90 Feet Road at Soura and Awantibawan areas where many persons including a woman was injured in the shelling and violence unleashed by government forces. Condemning the government forces for creating havoc on the people of Kashmir in general and south Kashmir in particular, the APHC spokesman said by starting ‘Operation Ransack’, the forces were ransacking and damaging household goods, valubles and damaging electric transformers in different areas to harass people and punish them, while making life of the people in Kishtwar, Bhaderwah and other areas of Chenab Valley difficult by imposing strict curfew.Expressing strong resentment over the continuous detention of Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for the past one month before which he was placed under house arrest, continued house arrest of veteran resistance leader, Syed Ali Geelani and continued detention of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik besides other resistance leaders including Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam and thousands of people detained in different jails across and outside the state and slapping of PSA on more than 100 members of resistance groups, the spokesman said it was against all democratic norms and human rights and demanded their immediate release.Meanwhile, senior Hurriyat leaders, Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, Muhammad Musadiq Adil and several other Hurriyat members visited Sheeri, Baramulla residence of senior member of the Human Rights Wing of APHC, Malik Muhammad Yasin whose father had passed away.The Hurriyat leaders expressed grief over his death, prayed to the Almighty Allah to grant Jannat-ul-Firdous to him and forbearance to the bereaved family.
