Amid unrest in the Valley, the illegal construction goes unabated in Srinagar district while the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is acting as mute spectators with taking no action on them.Sources told KNS that several illegal constructions were during past 30 days of unrest in Kashmir. “The authorities however failed to take any action against the norm violators,” they said. They said that several illegal constructions are also being raised in the prohibited areas during the current unrest in several Srinagar areas. “We informed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) authorities as well but unfortunately with taking no action against them, it seems that the officials in the corporation are in hand-in-glove with the norm violators,” they said.Sources informed that besides residential areas in Srinagar, the illegal construction inside the localities of Dal Lake goes unabated as well. “Strict action should be taken against the norm violators so that no one could dare to raise illegal construction in prohibited areas,” they demanded.

However, reports said that in continuation with the demolition drive launched by the Lakes & Waterways Development Authority through its Enforcement Wing, 13 illegal constructions/structures at Ashaibagh, Saida Kadal & Nigeen were demolished on Tuesday which had been raised under the garb of present unrest.Further, the people residing within the LDA jurisdiction are hereby directed not to go for any sort of illegal constructions, as the Enforcement wing will continue with demolition of illegal constructions. Moreover, all the Tipper/Load carrier owners are directed not to carry/ferry any sort of construction material in the prohibited area of Dal/Nigeen Lake without permission.Meanwhile, SMC commissioner, Bashir Ahmad Khan told KNS that they have already started the demolition drive and won’t allow one to raise illegal construction.“The officials of SMC today demolished several illegal stories in Habak area and will continue to demolish illegal constructions. We will act tough against the norm violators,” he said. (KNS)
