Punjab Irrigation Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon and Advisor to CM Mr Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal have welcomed the decision of Punjab government of reducing the power tariff for industry. Both the leaders said that this decision would benefit the industry in a big way. They said that the Punjab government would now provide electricity at Rs 4.99 per unit to industry, which is the lowest in India. Besides this, a surcharge of Rs 2 per unit during peak load has also been removed, which would lead to a respite of around Rs 200 crore per month for the industry. The industrialists from the financial capital of state, Ludhiana, have also welcomed the decision of Punjab government of reducing the power tariff. On the fulfilling of their long pending demand, the industrialists as well as associations have thanked the Punjab government and stated that this decision would benefit small as well as large industries. They said that this decision of Punjab government would also help the state in playing leading role in "Make in India" campaign.

Mr Dhillon and Mr Grewal said that the industrialists would now get electricity at a tariff of Rs 4.99 per unit as compared to Rs 5.85 per unit earlier and 86 paisa per unit lesser than before. Similarly, the medium industry would get electricity at Rs 5.99 per unit now as compared to Rs 6.38 per unit earlier, large industry would get electricity at a tariff of Rs 6.35 per unit, which was earlier Rs 6.46 per unit. The tariff for medium industry and large industry has been reduced by 36 paisa and 11 paisa respectively. They said that prior to the year 2007, the state used to reel under power cuts because the production of electricity was less, besides the transmission and distribution network was also in bad state. They said that ever since the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party formed government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal in Punjab, they worked really hard for making our state power surplus and revamping and strengthening the distribution and transmission network.

He said that now the industrialists, farmers and all other people are not only getting 24X7 uninterrupted power supply, but also at lowest rates in the country. They said that it was only due to the good efforts of PSPCL that they got A+ certification by the union government as well as best organisation award by Central Board of Irrigation and Power. They warned Congress and Aam Aadmi Party for defaming Punjab and said that both these political parties have become issueless parties now because the SAD-BJP government has carried overall development in the state.

Meanwhile, today, several industrialists and associations, including Manjit Singh Khalsa, President, Punjab Laghu Udyog Sangathan, Avtar Singh, President, Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU), Upkar Singh Ahuja, General Secretary,  CICU, Charanjit Singh Vishwakarma, President, United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association, Gurpargat Singh Kahlon, President, All India Auto Parts Manufacturers Association of India, RD Sharma, General Secretary, All India Cycle Manufacturers Association, Kulwinder Singh Benipal, President, Focal Point Welfare Association, Inderjit Singh Navyug, Rajinder Singh Sarhali, Ajit Singla, besides several others also welcomed this decision of the Punjab government. These industrialists informed that with an aim to give much needed respite to the existing as well as new industry, Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal has announced that the Punjab government would provide electricity at Rs 4.99 per unit, which is the lowest in India.
