Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon Tuesday chaired an officers meeting to review the traffic scenario in Srinagar and other districts and directed the officials of concerned departments to work in synergy to provide succor to the people.The meeting was attended by officials of Traffic police, Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA), Beacon, Chief Town Planner and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar. The Deputy Commissioners from other districts participated via videoconferencing.  The Divisional Commissioner also instructed the concerned authorities to expedite the shifting of Batmaloo Bus Stand to Parimpora and asked the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to personally oversee the removal of illegal structures at Parimpora. The meeting was informed that to deter rampant roadside parking, the traffic police has identified 28 spots on roads where parking charges would be imposed. The Beacon officials and R&B department were asked to sort out the issues pertaining to road ownership from Panthachowk towards BB Cantt and macadamise the same.

While reviewing the traffic management of other valley districts, the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla informed the meeting that various steps have been taken by the district administration that has helped in reducing the traffic problems. She said the district administration has appointed 50 Special Police Officers (SPO) for the purpose of regulating traffic in the district.The Divisional Commissioner asked the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal to immediately start acquisition of structures at Beehama chowk for smooth flow of local and tourist traffic. The meeting was informed that the R&B department has already prepared a proposal for four-laning of road from 90ft road to Wayil.Regarding under-construction bypass road at Pulwama, the Divisional Commissioner directed the district administration Pulwama to complete the project within this week to ease out the traffic rush.Dr Samoon directed the officials to identify special spots for vendors and explore the modalities of rotating weekly holidays for different markets.
