Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat today reviewed the status of various schemes being implemented under the National Health Mission (NHM) across the State at a high-level meeting held here.Minister of State for Health & Medical Education, Ms. Asiea Naqash was also present in the meeting.Several issues related to the smooth implementation of the schemes namely, Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY),  Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram (JSSK), Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karayakram (RBSK), Rashtriya Kishore Swasthya karyakram (RKSK) were discussed in detail.The Minister stressed the need for effective implementation of the schemes so that the benefits accrue to the targeted groups. He also stressed for improving the monitoring mechanism to ensure transparency and accountability at different levels to achieve tangible results on ground.The Minister directed the implementing agency (NHM) to highlight the components and benefits of the schemes through different mediums including electronic and print media and hoardings and also by organizing awareness programmes for the information of the general masses. He asked them to reach out to every educational institution to spread awareness about various diseases and preventive measures through lectures and informative material.

The Minister issued instructions to the Mission Director, NHM, J&K to undertake extensive tour of the rural health institutions to ascertain the factual status of health infrastructure available. He said rural healthcare needs special attention, particularly in the far-flung areas, adding that ground level institutions must be equipped with requisite facilities so that delivery is conducted locally. He also called for optimum use of funds in upgrading rural healthcare facilities.Ms. Asiea Naqash underlined the need for improving the overall health infrastructure in the State by mobilizing available resources. She called for undertaking special awareness campaign about the health facilities available in the government health institutions with the active involvement of social organizations, NGOs and Panchayat Members so that benefits of health schemes reach the needy.

Mission Director, NHM, Dr. Mohan Singh briefed the meeting about the status of the implementation of the programmes. He informed that the State received an amount of Rs. 20.41 crore including Rs. 2.82 crore as State share during the previous year, out of which Rs. 19.25 crore have been spent on different programme. He informed that over 8 lakh women have been provided incentives under JSY scheme since the launch of the scheme. During the year 2015-16 over one lakh beneficiaries were covered under the same scheme.  Similarly, under JSSK, as many as 6.57 lakh pregnant women and 1.46 lakh sick neonates and infants were benefitted since the launch of the programme, he informed.Secretary Health & Medical Education, Dr. M.K. Bhandari, Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr. B.S. Pathania, Director Family Welfare, Dr. Baldev Sharma and other senior officers of the Health Department and National Health Mission were present in the meeting.
