A day after the media report said that three Kashmiri students were beaten by the local goons at Chilla village in Mohali, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad asked Chief Minister of Punjab, Sardar Prakash Singh Badal to take strict against the culprits involved in gruesome incident. In his letter to Pujab CM, Azad accused that such kind of tendencies of dividing the society have grown rampantly across the country after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come to power at centre.Azad said, “The mob violence and hooliganism is antithetical to the idea of rule of law, democracy and civilized society. This generates distrust and breaks unity. Image of the country as a vibrant and rule governed democracy also gets sullied.”

He said that despite passing so many days since the incident occurred, no action was taken against the culprits. “The identity of the culprits is known as the reports tend to indicate, yet there has been delay in making the arrests,” he said.He said that he hope that Punjab CM will appreciate the need to arrest the trend and direct the concerned authorities to take immediate and stern action against the perpetrators of brutal assault on the students and laborers belonging to Jammu and Kashmir.Three Jammu and Kashmir students were allegedly abused and beaten up in Mohali district of Punjab on the night of March 15 after being labeled as “militants.”After the attack by local goons, the students were admitted in Civil Hospital, Phase-6 in Mohali area. The students were identified as Sanjay Singh Thakur who hails from Batoli, Tehsil Gundoh in district Doda while two other students are Pardeep Singh and Kanwar Satyajeet—residents of Kishtwar.Police have registered a case against the assailants under FIR No 0066 of 2016 under sections 307, 323, 506, 34 of Indian Penal Code but till date none of them has been arrested.
