Week Long Kullu Dussehra To Begin From 24th October, 2012

The world famous International Kullu Dussehra Festival would be organized with traditional fervour and gaiety from 24th to 30th October, 2012 and would be inaugurated by the Governor, Smt. Urmila Singh on 24th October. This was disclosed by Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister in the State Level Kullu Dussehra meeting, held under his chairmanship here today.  He said that the Dussehra festival was world famous and reflects the rich tradition and cultural heritage of the State. He said that weeklong festival provides glimpse of traditional folk and was gaining popularity and importance with every passing year. He said that the festival was also famous religiously 

as the record number of local deities participate in the festival and throng the venue to give the festival a devotional touch. He said that the State Government had been endeavouring to uphold the traditional fervour of the festival.  Chief Minister said that the Government had been inviting International cultural troupes from different countries and this year, the troupes from Russia and Brazil had confirmed their participation. He said that alongwith other cultural programmes, a three day State level folk dance festival would also be a part of the Dussehra fair. Dhumal said, full-proof security arrangement would be made to ensure law and order during the festival so that the fair may go on smoothly. He said that all the departments would work in close co-ordination to make festival a success and also to ensure that the visitors may not face any inconvenience during the week long mela. He directed the district administration to ensure safety of people besides providing local deities a proper stage to perform.  Manisha Nanda, Principal Secretary, Art, Language, and Culture welcome the Chief Minister and detailed the activities to be organized and steps to be taken to make festival a success.Rakesh Kanwar, Director, Art, Language and Culture conducted the proceedings of the meeting.Khimi Ram Sharma, Forest Minister, Shri Govind Thakur and  Kishori Lal, MLAs, S. Roy, Chief Secretary, Dr. Srikant Baldi, Principal Secretary Finance,  P.C.Dhiman, Principal Secretary Home,  K.C.Sadyal, Additional Director General of Police,  Joginder Rana,. Commissioner Industries,  Subhashish Panda, Secretary Finance,  Amitabh Awasthi, Deputy Commissioner, Kullu, Shri Lokender Chauhan, Managing Director, HPTDC, Shri N.L.Sharma, Engineer-in-Chief PWD, Dr. D.S.Chandel, Director of Health Services,  Gopal Sharma, Director of Hospitality, other senior officers were also present in the 

meeting.
