Awami Itihad Party (AIP) supremo and MLA Langate Er Rasheed today visited Uri Salamabad Uri to express his solidarity with the agitating workers of NHPC.Speaking on the occasion Er Rasheed assured agitating workers of his full support for their genuine demands and reiterated that state government is doing nothing to make NHPC agree to the demands of the locals who have been working in the project since more than a decade.Er Rasheed while addressing the agitating employees in the premises of NHPC said, “NHPC has looted the resources of the state and state government has not only surrendered the right of people of the state to take projects back from NHPC but now the worst thing that is happening is that the locals of Uri who have offered their lands for the project are now being treated like slaves.
NHPC is neither following any labour rules to take care of the grievances of the local employees nor is doing anything to fulfil the duties towards people of the area in the corporate social responsibility sector.”Er Rasheed along with the local administration and the representatives of agitating employees had an hour long negotiation with the top brasses of NHPC to find some solution to the genuine demands of the agitating employees but the negotiations couldn’t yield any concrete result.However Er Rasheed was not later allowed to visit village Gingal where CRPF and CISF had beaten people to the pulp and about two dozen people including women and men were injured.A heavy contingent of police stopped Er Rasheed at the outskirts of Gingal village and forced him back to Baramullah in the late evening. Er Rasheed condemned the police action and alleged that police is trying to hide the atrocities on people in Gingal. (KNS)
